IS YOUR WASHING MACHINE ACTING UP?

Before calling for a washer service call, here is a few items you can check first.

Washing Machine Leaking Water

IS YOUR WASHING MACHINE LEAKING WATER?

Sure, washers can leak, and it should be checked if the problem persists or your seeing excessive amounts of water. Consider checking these items first.

(1) WHERE IS THE WATER ACTUALLY COMING FROM?

Often overlooked is the plumbing drain standpipe that your washing machine drains into. Some may remember washing machines that had removable lint catches you could clean. This is no longer the case. If standpipe develops a restriction, then when the washer begins to drain the water will spill over onto the floor. In this case you would need to call a plumber.

(2) WHAT SOAP ARE YOU USING?

High efficiency washers require high efficiency soap. You'll notice most detergent bottles have HE symbols on them signifying that this detergent is designed for high efficiency washers. Even so the detergent required to be used is less than older style machines so cutting down on soap or changing brands can help sometimes. if you notice excessive soaps even when you haven't added soap yet then there is a telltale sign.

(3) HAVE YOU CHECKED THE DRAIN TRAP?

Some Manufacturers like LG and Samsung will provide direct access to the pump trap located at the very front of the washer. If you are to attempt this, you must follow all manufacturer's instructions in the use and care manual. Always be advised that water will be present and flow outward as soon as you open the drain trap.

(4) HAVE YOU UNPLUGGED THE MACHINE TO RESET THE CONTROL?

If a washing machine is acting erratic sometimes its beneficial to unplug the washer machine to allow the control to reset. Some manufacturers will actually provide instructions on how to do so. It doesn't always help but sometimes it will. As a servicer this is helpful as well because you do not want to perform a service call where you are chasing a phantom issue.

(5) HAVE YOU CHECKED THE DRAIN INSIDE THE DOOR GASKET?

Front loaders often have weep holes on the bottom of the door gasket to allow water to flow back into the machine and not become trapped in the gulley of the door gasket. These holes often become clogged and do not allow this water to drain. They can be cleaned but you must take care when doing so not to damage the door gaskets.
